Who Owns Aston Martin Now?

Although Aston Martin has had several owners over the years, it is now a publicly traded company. Aston Martin had their initial public offering in October of 2018, and they are currently listed on the London Stock Exchange as Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings PLC. This public offering helped Aston Martin build a state-of-the-art factory in South Wales, which now produces the Aston Martin DBX SUV.

As a publicly traded company, nearly anyone can become a part owner of Aston Martin. One such shareholder in Aston Martin is Lawrence Stroll, a Canadian billionaire who helped start the Aston Martin F1 team, which his son Lance Stroll currently drives for. In 2023, Lawrence Stroll increased his ownership to over 25%, making him the largest current shareholder.

What Does DB in Aston Martin Mean?

Although Aston Martin is now a publicly traded company, it used to be privately owned. One such private owner, David Brown, purchased the brand in 1947. His company, David Brown Limited, made their successes in the industrial machinery business and put Aston Martin under their tractor division. Another acquisition at the time, engine manufacturer Lagonda, meant that Aston Martin now had powerful engines to install in their vehicles.

By combining Lagonda's legendary engines with Aston Martin's iconic chassis, this new partnership led to the DB2, the first Aston Martin to carry the DB moniker. This car raced at Le Mans in 1949 and set forth a series of competition-focused vehicles, each bearing his initials "DB." The new Aston Martin lineup features a number of models with David Brown's initials, carrying forth his legacy for innovation and competition.
