The XC90 has been Volvo’s luxury midsize crossover SUV since it was first introduced at the North American International Auto Show back in 2002. The crossover has been a popular addition to the Swedish company’s lineup, even coming in as Volvo’s best selling model worldwide for the 2005 fiscal year.

The second generation of the XC90 debuted in 2014, and featured a complete redesign from the ground up. Sitting on a new platform, the 2015 XC90 also included a redesigned chassis with a double wishbone front suspension composed of lighter weight material. The interior of the crossover boasted a 9-inch touch screen control center with the most advanced in-vehicle technology. The updated XC90 earned top safety ratings, which should come as no surprise for a brand that has been known for its high safety standards. Volvo released a plug-in hybrid version of the popular crossover, known as the XC90 T8. This impressive variant of the SUV manages up to 53 miles per gallon, and accounts for 20 percent of the model’s sales globally as of March 2016.

While the second generation of the XC90 was impressive, it is the anticipation surrounding the release of the 2017 Volvo XC90 that has captured the most global attention. The Swedish automaker has remained relatively quiet regarding this latest version of its crossover, but we have everything you need to know about the third generation of the XC90.
